Pet Peeves

I like to think I am pretty easy going, but I do have some pet peeves that make me a little less easy. For instance, I really hate (to an extreme that I am not proud of) when I go to a website and cannot find the Contacts. That drives me nuts! It makes me assume that the people who own the website do not want to be contacted. I can’t be the only person who wants to see a button or a menu item that says Contact, and that will take me to a page that shows me am email address and/or a phone number. That’s okay – if you do not want my business, I will take it elsewhere.

Speaking of websites, another issue that I have is when I am looking for information, and find a place where it would make sense to have that information, and yet it is not there. Some websites claim to be so intuitive, but they do not work the way I think!

And in real life, I have gotten to the point where I have little tolerance for people who are late all the time. I understand that things happen sometimes that you have no control over – an accident happens on your way, you have a child care issue that you did not expect, you get an important phone call that you have to take that takes more time than you thought it would, you have young children (that is always an adventure to try to leave the house.) I get that these things happen, and a quick “I’m sorry to be late” is more than enough. But if you are one of those people that is just always late, try thinking about how that reads to someone else. This may or may not be true, but it starts to look to me like you believe your time is more important than mine, therefore it is okay for me to have to sit and wait for you. Maybe the issue is just that you are overbooked; if so, maybe you should look at that issue.

Another pet peeve is people who consistently make plans that they don’t carry through on. Of course, you or a family member getting sick calls for a change of plans. But consistently changing your plans because you just don’t feel like it, or you get a better offer, doesn’t work for me anymore. If it happens once in a blue moon, that is okay. But when it is consistent, it makes me rethink where my time and energy should go.

Do those are a few of my pet peeves. I am not proud of them, but they are what they are.
