Question #5 – What/who would I be in this situation if I could be anything I wanted?

We have made it to the final question in my list. What/who would I be in this situation if I could be anything I wanted? This might be considered a bit of a trick question, because you CAN be anything or anyone you want to be in any situation. This question could be asked another way: Who am I choosing to be in this situation, and is it my best choice at this point?

I sometimes find myself, despite my best efforts, choosing to be a victim. This question can really help me out in times like that. If I can stop and really look at myself and who I am choosing to be, then I have a chance to make a different decision. For example, if my kid doesn’t put his dishes in the dishwasher (yes, sometimes I am that petty) then I will tell myself how much I am being taken advantage of and being used, how nobody appreciates everything I do and treats me like I am their slave, etc. If I stop and ask myself who am I choosing to be here, or what would I be in this situation if I could be anything I wanted, then I can step back and see that I AM choosing to be a victim, I do have other choices. For me the best choice is usually to be proactive and just address the situation, and stop playing victim.

Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you could choose to be a different you than you have currently chosen? I invite you to ask yourself this question the next time you don’t like how things are going. And let us know how it works for you.
