Thin the herd

I really don’t understand why wearing a mask has gotten so politicized in our country. It’s not a political issue; it’s a health issue. It is something that I can do to help protect others, and others can do to help protect me. It is not a big deal, yet some people are making it a big deal. Yes, there are some people out there who cannot, for health reasons, wear a mask. Fine, they shouldn’t wear a mask. Those are some of the people we are trying to protect by wearing a mask, and, for the most part, those aren’t the people who are whining. The people who are whining are complaining about their rights being violated. I think this may be proof that we are not teaching everything that should be taught in school. People seem to have forgotten that with rights come responsibilities.

To be honest, I don’t like wearing a mask either – it gets uncomfortable, my glasses fog up, it’s sometimes hard to understand what people are saying – and I do it anyway.  It’s not that bad. It is my responsibility to do what I can to protect others, and so I wear a mask.

I know there have always been people among us who are self-centered and selfish, and they sure seem to have come out from the shadows these days. Unfortunately, these people can’t be convinced with logic, because they don’t believe in science. Well, I am certainly not advocating for bad things to happen to them, but I heard someone say about them, “thin the herd,” and I fear that may be what happens. Don’t let that happen – wear the mask!
